Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Shodhana is built so that this policy can stay short.

What the app collects

Nothing. Shodhana has no accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. It makes no network requests while scanning or cleaning, and everything it learns about your disk stays on your Mac. It contacts the network for exactly two things, both described below: checking for updates, and activating a license if you buy one.

What the app reads on your Mac

To do its job, Shodhana reads file names and sizes in locations like caches, logs, and application-support folders — locally, to display them to you. File contents are never read, stored, or transmitted. Your cleaning history and whitelist are stored on your own Mac in ~/Library/Application Support/Shodhana.

Updates

Shodhana checks for new versions automatically, and whenever you use "Check for Updates". Each check fetches a version list from our update server at updates.shodhana.app. Like any web request it carries your IP address, and the request identifies which version of Shodhana and macOS you are running — this is what lets us avoid offering an update your Mac cannot run. Nothing else is sent: no identifier, no licence key, and nothing about your files. We do not use these requests for analytics or build any profile from them.

Activation

If you buy a license, activating it sends your license key and an anonymous fingerprint of your Mac — a one-way hash of a hardware identifier, never the identifier itself — to api.shodhana.app, so the license can be limited to the number of Macs it covers. This happens once per Mac. After that your license is verified on your Mac alone, with no further contact. Deactivating a Mac sends the same two values to release its slot.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Dodo Payments as merchant of record. They collect the billing information needed to complete your purchase under their own privacy policy; we receive your name and email to issue your license key, and use them for nothing else.
